Overnight guests receive breakfast and can explore the reserve at a relaxed pace.
Camping is available for self-contained vehicles (campervans, overlanders).

Where is Mindo Lindo Located?
Mindo Lindo is located in Ecuador’s northwest cloud forest, about 2 hours from Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport. The reserve sits just 7 km before the village of Mindo, along the road connecting Quito to the coast. The drive passes through dramatic changes in landscape as you descend from the Andes into the lush cloud forest region.

How much does it cost to visit?
We keep our pricing accessible so that students, researchers, and nature lovers can experience the reserve.
Rates depend on the type of visit — whether you are coming for a day visit, overnight stay, or a guided experience.

Can I visit just for the day?
Yes. Day visits are welcome with advance notice.
Many day visitors come to:
- watch hummingbirds
- walk the forest trails
- climb the observation tower
- learn about reforestation and conservation work
Do I need to make a reservation?
No reservation is required for a day visit. Our gates are open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
However, we encourage visitors to plan ahead and submit a reservation form, especially if you would like to arrange a guided visit. This helps us prepare for your arrival and ensure a guide is available.
Birdwatchers who wish to arrive earlier in the morning are kindly asked to contact us the day before via WhatsApp or with more advanced notice using the reservation form.
What is the weather like?
Mindo has a mild cloud forest climate year-round.
Typical conditions include:
- Temperatures between 16–24°C (60–75°F)
- Frequent mist and occasional rain
- Lush green vegetation throughout the year
Rain showers are common but often brief and part of what keeps the forest vibrant.
What wildlife can I see?
Despite its small size, the reserve hosts an impressive range of wildlife.
More than 260 species of birds have been recorded at Mindo Lindo, including over 30 species of hummingbirds, along with mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and countless insects typical of the Andean cloud forest.
Wildlife activity is constant throughout the day, and after dark the trails often reveal frogs and nocturnal insects.

What is the lodging like?
The guest rooms at Mindo Lindo are simple, rustic, and comfortable, designed to allow visitors to stay quietly within the reserve.
Rather than a hotel environment, the lodging reflects the atmosphere of a small cloud forest research reserve where nature is always close by.




What do the rooms include?
Rooms are equipped with a private bathroom with hot water, a portable heater, and WiFi. Just outside, you’ll find a small sitting area to relax, along with full access to the observation terrace and the trails across the property.



What meals are included?
Breakfast is included for overnight guests and is available for day visitors with advanced notice.
Lunch and dinner are not served at the reserve, but the town of Mindo is only a 10–15 minute taxi ride away and offers many excellent restaurants and cafés. Food delivery from town is also possible.


Is camping available at Mindo Lindo?
Yes. We welcome visitors traveling with campervans or overlanders. Campers have access to restrooms and hot showers, but kitchen facilities are not available. We do not offer tent camping at this time.
As space is limited, we recommend making a reservation in advance.



Is WIFI available?
WiFi is available in the private rooms and near the main house. Beyond these areas—including the Eco-Center and surrounding grounds—you’ll be offline.

Do I need a guide to visit Mindo Lindo?
No guide is required to enjoy Mindo Lindo.
Visitors are welcome to explore the forest trails, watch hummingbirds from the balcony, and spend time observing wildlife at their own pace.
Guided visits can also be arranged in advance for guests who would like to learn more about the cloud forest ecosystem, the reforestation work, and/or the wildlife found in the reserve.
Do I need a car to visit Mindo Lindo?
No. Once you arrive at Mindo Lindo, everything in the reserve is easily walkable, including the forest trails, observation tower, and wildlife viewing areas.
Many visitors arrive without a car. You can take a bus from Quito to the town of Mindo, and then a short taxi ride (about 10–15 minutes) to reach the reserve. It is also possible to arrange a private car or driver directly from Quito to Mindo Lindo.

Do I need to be a birder to enjoy visiting?
No! You simply need to enjoy the outdoors.
While many birdwatchers visit the reserve, most guests simply enjoy spending time in the forest — walking the trails, admiring hummingbirds, or relaxing in a quiet natural setting.
What is the best time of year to visit Mindo?
Mindo’s cloud forests can be visited year-round, and wildlife activity is good in every season. The months between September and April are often considered especially productive for birdwatching, but the forest remains vibrant throughout the year thanks to its humid climate.
What should I bring?
Comfortable walking shoes, light rain protection, insect repellent, sunhat, and binoculars if you have them. The cloud forest climate can change quickly, so a light jacket is always a good idea.
